A community dedicated to Bitcoin, the currency of the Internet. Bitcoin is a distributed, worldwide, decentralized digital money. Bitcoins are issued and managed without any central authority whatsoever: there is no government, company, or bank in charge of Bitcoin. You might be interested in Bitcoin if you like cryptography, distributed peer-to-peer systems, or economics. A large percentage of Bitcoin enthusiasts are libertarians, though people of all political philosophies are welcome.

Lightning-Torrent: Bitcoin-Torrent with streaming for 2c / Full-HD movie
Hey guys, I saw that many people were shocked that with SegWit being enabled nothing earth-shattering happened, and were asking, why the price of Bitcoin didn't go up. Please just think about the system that's unavoidable now that Lightning network is closer to reality: you'll soon be able to stream any video you can imagine for a few cents. I'm not saying it's a good or bad thing, but it's at this point unavoidable. Now think about whether you have any friends who would want to use a service like this, but haven't bought any Bitcoins yet....
Would it make any sense to mirror the blockchain in a torrent file? Thus providing a decent backup in case the IRC blockchain bootstrap got disrupted / taken offline? I feel like the use of IRC for bootstrapping is still a vulnerable bottleneck. Update I'm amazed by how many responses came back simultaneously chiding me for thinking IRC isn't involved in bitcoins bootstrap process and also being completely ignorant of what role it plays. If you're going to criticise someone at least make sure you're correct first. It's not like this information wasn't available.
Remember to "seed" just like you would a torrent. You come here to learn info, be sure pass more info onto the next round of newbies. Together we are Bitcoin's decrentalized customer service
never share you acutal Seed. In torrenting, seeding is when you upload to others the file that you downloaded, to keep the network going. The concept is share back what you take. So you came here to learn something, be sure to teach that info the next person. Reddit is called a echo camber because this happens on every subreddit, its really good to have here EDIT: maybe instead of customer service, i should have said tech support.

I had that idea already last year. I sure as hell don't have the skills to implement it. I don't do drugs... so basically I hoard. But I have been wanting to PAY for people to seed some rare content on bit torrent. I have been googling every month or so and eventually found this today. bitcoin-torrent https://github.com/bitcoin-torrent/bitcoin-torrent It is no way near completion. But this will bring bitcoin to the masses. All my family members use bit torrent but they don't care about bitcoin because it is basically useless to them. bitcoin-torrent changes that. Technically, the idea is that the leecher pays bitcoins to access seeder's data blocks. The challenge is to implement/merge that in the bit torrent protocol.
Torrenting, biology, and anarchism (possibly a really obvious idea)
I've finally come to a reasonable conclusion of how resources could be distributed in a fair manner, and made the conversion from "an"cap back to anarchist. The model is based on decentralized networking (bitcoin, torrenting, i2p, etc) and the way our body works. I'm not claiming it to be original at all, and it may be likely this was obvious to everyone but me. In its simplest form, a global, communal society could function exactly as a decentralized network. One person needs food, it is put on a list of needs and excesses sorted by locality and necessity, or they talk to someone with an excess, and all needs are fulfilled, and excesses (rather than being wasted) are used. This is roughly how our body works - example: if we lift weights with our left arm, our brain receives a general signal to make us hungry, we eat, and all of our cells are fed - but the hungriest (so to speak) cells receive the most food, as they are actively trying to obtain it. Thoughts? Is this a stupid or obvious thing? Flaws? Thank you for reading!
Would it be possible to read out all posts on the network?
Today I finally managed to make a build and get Twister running (yay) (@arco). And as the title says I'm wondering what it would cost to read/scrape all the posts which are posted on the network. Is the only way to do so to follow all the users and 'download' their posts? Or is it possible to listen to the activity of the network or something and read it on that way. For example show in 'realtime' all the posts happening on the network. I barely understand how the whole Bitcoin/Torrent synchronization works, so excuses my stupidity :-)
